A 42-year-old woman from Maphisa, Matabeleland South province, accused of murdering her husband by dousing him with petrol and setting him ablaze during a dispute over infidelity, awaits her verdict this Friday.
According to a local tabloid, Sindiso Ndlovu stood trial before Bulawayo High Court Judge Nokuthula Ndlovu, facing a murder charge to which she pleaded not guilty.
According to the state's allegations, on the night of October 19, 2019, at approximately 9 pm, Ndlovu and her husband, Busani Ncube, engaged in a heated argument in their bedroom regarding Ncube's suspected infidelity.
Reportedly, Ndlovu locked the bedroom door while Ncube lay on the bed, proceeding to ignite the petrol upon him with a matchstick.
Law enforcement was notified, and Ndlovu was apprehended following an investigation of the scene.
Ncube was initially treated at Maphisa District Hospital but was later transferred to United Bulawayo Hospital due to the severity of his injuries. Unfortunately, he succumbed to pneumonia and burns on January 8, 2020, as revealed by the post-mortem report.
During the trial, Ndlovu's neighbor, Ndabezinhle Sibanda, testified to hearing news of the incident while at Maphisa Business Centre. Rushing to the scene, they discovered Ncube with severe burns. Inside the house, they found a 25-liter container of petrol. Acting quickly, they removed Ncube's burning clothes with a knife and extinguished the flames using a blanket before rushing him to the hospital.
