Zanu-PF Masvingo Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) recently deployed its chairpersons at various levels from the cell level to go and hold weekly meetings with people and explain to them about the new currency, the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG).

Ruling party Provincial Chairperson Senator Robson Mavhenyengwa gave the order at a Zanu-PF PCC meeting held at Masvingo Poly last weekend where he said the introduction of ZiG was not government's idea but Zanu-PF which he said was bigger than the government.

Mavhenyengwa said since it was the party's brainchild, they had to make sure the idea prevailed hence the need to go and preach to people about the new currency so they accept it.

"Elections came, are done and dusted, and now it's time to support the President as well as his government. We must support our government. Here we have been told about ZiG which was introduced by the President and the government so let's go and preach ZiG.

"ZiG does not belong to President Mnangagwa but Zanu-PF, which is led by him, so it is Zanu-PF led by President Mnangagwa that brought ZiG. You are Zanu-PF members so you are part of ZiG. All party chairpersons at all levels should convene meetings with the people every week to discuss ZiG.

"All the meetings should be recorded and the reports should be compiled and sent to the District Coordinating Committee Chairpersons (DCCs) who will then send them to PCC," said Mavhenyengwa.

Mavhenyengwa went on to read the riot act on insubordinate party members whom he accused of fanning factionalism and creating parallel structures saying it was not time for people to jostle for party positions as there are no vacancies.

"There is no restructuring for now, I hear there are some people who now have their own chairpersons and other positions whilst the elected ones are still there. Wait, the time shall come and everyone will be given an opportunity. If you are not careful beware you will not contest when the time comes.

"I also heard there are some MPs who are doing the restructuring. We have a challenge with the MPs who want to control the structures, they are not yours but the party's, so beware. Restructuring is done by the commissariat not MPs," said Mavhenyengwa.

He also mocked party chairpersons whom he said were not even aware of their duties and responsibilities and ordered them to make sure they carry the party's constitution when they go to party meetings and make sure they are well conversant with it.

Speaking at the same meeting, Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Former Zanu-PF Chairperson Ezra Chadzamira said Zanu-PF formed the party so if the government fails its Zanu-PF that would have failed.

"Your party Zanu-PF is the one in government, so we have to support the government because if it fails, it's Zanu-PF that would have failed. That is why you see me working together with the chairperson (Mavhenyengwa). Even when the President comes, he recognizes two people, one from the party and one from government," said Chadzamira.
