Police in Mashonaland Central province have arrested two suspected murderers who allegedly assaulted a suspected gold ore thief to death yesterday.

Two artisanal miners Callisto Mbuuyu and Jayden Musarurwa (22) are assisting police with investigations following the death of one Anesu.

Deputy Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Tony Nyandoro confirmed the case.

"I can confirm a murder case which occurred at Botha mine in Bindura on Thursday," Nyandoro said.

He said investigations are still underway.

Witnesses alleged the duo accused the now deceased of stealing gold ore at the mine around 0100 hours.

They tired the now deceased on a hammer mill and undressed him.

The duo took a fan belt and took turns to assault him.

They also poured water on him before severely assaulting him all over the body.

After assaulting him they dumped his body and police managed to apprehend the two before conveying the body to Bindura hospital.

Police warned people to desist from violence.

"Members of the public should desist from taking the law into their own hands. People should report all criminal cases to the nearest police establishment and stay away from instant justice. It is worrisome that we have lost a life in circumstances that could be avoided," added Nyandoro.
