A Zanu-PF lawmaker offered US$20 for child support, citing financial strain from heavy investment in his 2023 election campaigns.
Tsungai Makumbe, the legislator for Mazowe North, informed Harare magistrate Meenal Narotam that he only received US$282 from parliamentary sessions, insufficient to meet family expenses. He argued that his ex-partner, Lydia Makuvure's demand for US$425 for their nine-month-old child was punitive.
Makuvure countered, stating Makumbe had additional income streams, including business ventures and agricultural activities. "I resided with him, thus I'm aware of his earnings," she affirmed. "Being politically active within the ruling party, I am acquainted with the remuneration of our leaders."
Narotam ruled that Makumbe should contribute US$50 monthly for child support.
