The Government of Zimbabwe has partnered with VARIAN, a supplier of cancer treatment equipment, to repair out-of-service radiotherapy machines at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals and Mpilo Central Hospital. These repairs are part of the National Cancer Control Plan, which also includes training health service providers to improve cancer treatment.
Deputy Health and Child Care Minister Sleiman Timios Kwidini announced during a National Assembly session that VARIAN engineers are currently working on the repairs.
The Ministry has also established a three-year maintenance contract with VARIAN for regular inspections, preventive maintenance, and prompt repairs to ensure the machines' long-term functionality.
This initiative aims to enhance cancer care services, ensuring accurate diagnosis and effective treatment for better patient outcomes. The Ministry will monitor the repair progress and the implementation of the maintenance contract to maintain high standards in cancer treatment equipment.
