Tens of thousands of rape cases are reported in Zimbabwe annually, but some are particularly harrowing.
In one such case, two young men, Lungile Ndebele (23) and Musa Ndlovu (21), broke into the home of a 76-year-old woman, assaulted, and raped her.
The attack extended over hours, and they also violently attacked her two grandchildren, who fled in terror.
After one attacker, Ndebele, left, the other, Ndlovu, continued to abuse the woman until he fell asleep, allowing her to escape and alert her neighbors.
The neighbors apprehended Ndlovu, who then revealed Ndebele's location, leading to their arrests.
The men appeared before the Plumtree resident magistrate, Joshua Nembaware, facing charges of rape.
This case underscores the extreme brutality faced by some victims and highlights the community's role in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
