President Emmerson Mnangagwa has openly acknowledged the critical role of financial remittances from the Zimbabwean diaspora in revitalizing and stabilizing the nation's struggling economy.
Speaking at a Diaspora Engagement Meeting in South Korea, Mnangagwa emphasized that these remittances have become the second-largest source of foreign currency, following the mining sector. Remittances are projected to exceed the US$1.8 billion received in 2023.
Mnangagwa urged Zimbabweans abroad to contribute to the country's development, promoting a philosophy of self-reliance and collective effort rooted in the heritage of the Great Munhumutapa. He highlighted the government's commitment to creating an inclusive environment for all citizens to participate in economic growth, fulfilling the vision of an empowered upper-middle-income society by 2030.
The President praised the patriotism of Zimbabweans living abroad and encouraged them to remain engaged and supportive of their homeland's progress. He reiterated that the government's efforts aim to ensure the freedoms and self-determination fought for by the nation's heroes, fostering a prosperous future for all Zimbabweans.
