A police chief in Kamativi, Matebeleland North province, found himself in hot water after assaulting a female subordinate.
On February 22, 44-year-old Stanley Siampongo became enraged when the officer, also 44, arrived for duty two hours late.
Unsatisfied with her explanation, Siampongo resorted to physical violence, repeatedly striking her until she fell. The subordinate fled towards the administration block, but Siampongo pursued her to continue the assault.
The officer reported the incident, leading to Siampongo's arrest and subsequent conviction. He was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, with six months suspended on condition of paying a US$500 fine and another six months suspended if he does not commit a similar offense within five years.
Siampongo now faces a US$500 fine deducted from his salary, serving as a reminder to adhere to proper disciplinary procedures in the future.
