Three Zimbabweans suspected of being in South Africa illegally appeared in court on Friday facing charges including murder, robbery, contravention of the Immigration Act, and possession of unlicensed firearms.
Elvis Makovere (32), Amos Ngwenya (35), and Samson Mpofu (55) were remanded in custody pending legal representation after their arrest in an intelligence-led operation.
The arrest followed information about a murder in Lephalale on June 3, 2024.
The suspects were found in possession of firearms, including an Uzi submachine gun and a 9-mm Glock. The provincial police commissioner commended the team for their thorough investigation.
This incident adds to previous cases involving Zimbabweans in South Africa, such as the recent conviction of individuals for theft of a railway line.
