President Mnangagwa will headline the 10th annual CEO Africa Roundtable in Victoria Falls, focusing on the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI), boosting trade through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and strategies to attract private sector investment in off-grid renewables. The event, running from June 13 to 14, serves as a platform for senior executives in public and private sectors to exchange economic and business insights.
The conference, themed "The Future of Africa: Modernise, Reshape and Grow," will address the role of AI in the global economy, with Africa poised to gain a substantial economic impact. AI could contribute up to US$15.7 trillion globally by 2030, with Africa expected to see a US$1.2 trillion boost, potentially raising its GDP by 5.6%.
The AfCFTA aims to create a single market for goods and services, enhance capital movement, and foster economic cooperation among African nations. It represents a significant opportunity for economic transformation, with a market of 1.3 billion people and a combined GDP of approximately US$3.4 trillion.
Key speakers at the conference include Industry and Commerce Minister Nqobizitha Mangaliso Ndlovu, Higher and Tertiary Education Minister Professor Amon Murwira, ICT Minister Tatenda Mavetera, Econet Wireless Zimbabwe CEO Dr. Douglas Mboweni, and Zim Cyber City CEO Tendayi Hlupo-Mamvura.
The Roundtable will explore AI policy responses, support local AI capacity, and discuss the AfCFTA's role in regional integration. Despite global challenges, Africa's rich natural resources, youthful population, and increasing digital economy exposure position it as a future global economic powerhouse. The event calls for African-led reforms and a focus on economic diversification, technology, human capital, and sustainable development to unlock the continent's potential.
