Deputy Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development, Davis Marapira, has emphasized that community leaders must not politicize the government's food aid program. He insisted on fair distribution to all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.
The government plans to provide food aid to over one million people in the Matabeleland region this year, following President Mnangagwa's directive to prevent hunger-related deaths. Marapira addressed villagers in Garanyemba, Gwanda District, to ensure fair implementation of the drought relief program.
He expressed concern over reports of community leaders using the food aid program for political gain, demanding sexual favors from women for grain, and denying aid based on political background. Such actions contradict government agendas and the President's expectations. Each person will receive 7.5kg of grain as part of the aid, fulfilling the President's assurance that no one should die of hunger in the country.
