Government has acknowledged that funds allocated for the construction of a police base in Gwabalanda, Bulawayo, were redirected to address other community needs, according to Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe.
The revelation came during a recent session of the National Assembly in response to inquiries from Gwabalanda-Luveve legislator Decent Bajila regarding delays in the project.
Minister Kazembe explained that although the construction of the police base was initially planned and funded through the Constituency Development Fund under the local legislator's supervision, the funds earmarked for the project were later diverted to tackle other pressing community issues. As an alternative measure to address security concerns in Gwabalanda and surrounding areas, a fully operational police station was established in Cowdray Park.
Kazembe assured that residents of Gwabalanda could access police services conveniently through the Cowdray Park and Luveve police stations. He also emphasized the commitment of the police to collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance public access to law enforcement services.
