Controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo, along with his former associates Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu, faces scrutiny from the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) over alleged money laundering and fraud.
Zacc announced plans to interview them regarding a letter from Mpofu and Chimombe demanding payment from a South Africa-based company, REN-Form, and audio recordings implicating Chivayo in illicit activities.
The commission is also interested in questioning Mpofu and Chimombe about the presidential goat scheme mentioned in the recordings. These developments follow a viral audio clip where Chivayo boasted about his connections to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and lucrative government tenders.
Chivayo has been warned by Zanu-PF's youth league to cease using Mnangagwa's name for personal gain. He distanced himself from the scandal, blaming Chimombe and Mpofu for attempting to extort money from him. Chivayo publicly apologized to Mnangagwa and other officials named in the recordings.
The businessman, known for his ostentatious displays at state functions, has donated generously to Mnangagwa's supporters and various events, despite ongoing scrutiny over the source of his wealth. The police are expected to provide further details on their position following briefings with top officials.
