In a move that demonstrates his commitment to empowering rural communities, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has distributed 75 goats to Mashonaland West province under the Presidential goat rearing and pass-on scheme.
Launched in 2022, the scheme aims to distribute 632,000 goats with improved genetics across the country, targeting youth, women, and vulnerable populations.
The program is part of the Government's Rural Development 8.0 initiative, aligning with the country's vision to achieve an upper middle-income economy by 2030.
The scheme will eventually distribute over 600,000 goats to small-scale farmers, benefiting the elderly, women-headed families, people living with disabilities, and youth-headed families.
Goat rearing is a viable and sustainable option for livestock production, as goats are resilient and require minimal resources. The program aims to expand and upgrade the country's goat industry to meet local and international demand, generating foreign currency and improving livelihoods.
In line with President Mnangagwa's development model, the program prioritizes inclusivity, ensuring that no one is left behind. The distribution of goats will continue to reach every corner of the country, promoting food security and financial benefits for rural households.
This initiative demonstrates the Government's commitment to empowering communities and achieving sustainable economic growth. As the program expands, it is expected to have a positive impact on the country's economy and the lives of many Zimbabweans.
