Chiwenga's name gets trucker in trouble
3 hrs ago | Views
A truck driver, Cosmas Kazuzu, faces serious legal troubles after allegedly threatening Douglas Zimbango, the chief executive officer of the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC), demanding the reinstatement of the company's suspended human resources manager. Kazuzu, 45, appeared before magistrate Tapiwa Banda on Friday, where he was remanded in custody and is expected to apply for bail today.
Represented by attorney Scott Panashe Mamimine, Kazuzu is accused of impersonating a representative from Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga's office to coerce Zimbango. The State claims that on August 5, Kazuzu contacted Zimbango, claiming to have incriminating evidence against him related to alleged diamond theft and fraud at ZCDC.
During the conversation, Kazuzu reportedly pressured Zimbango to withdraw disciplinary charges against Lavet Wadawarewa, the suspended HR manager. It is alleged that Kazuzu threatened Zimbango with dire consequences if he did not comply, stating he possessed documentation detailing criminal activities involving Zimbango and other senior officials.
On August 12, Kazuzu allegedly sent a text message to Zimbango, threatening him with dismissal if he did not drop the charges against Wadawarewa. The message purportedly read: "hallo sir ndaida kutaura nemwi, zvino madzima phone yenyu. Kususpender Wada kwemwaita zvinoreva kuti mune munhu wemurikuda kupa post yehuchief HR. Hino isu tinokuyambirayi kuti munhu wenyu iyeye wamuri kuda kupa post iyoyo mukadzi, Munaona kuruza mabasa. Ndati ndikuyambireyi zvenyu nekuti tichazozviteererawo pamberi apo. Ndatenda. Matinyadze, VP Chiwenga's Office," which translates to a warning about the consequences of suspending Wadawarewa.
On August 16, Kazuzu allegedly contacted Elias Mvere, ZCDC's chief security officer, again posing as Matinyadze from the Vice-President's office. He inquired about Wadawarewa's suspension and reiterated that he held incriminating documents against Zimbango and other senior managers. Kazuzu allegedly sent Mvere a document titled "Developments @ ZCDC," which contained allegations of theft and fraud involving Zimbango and other officials.
Mvere promptly reported the matter to Zimbango and forwarded the document via WhatsApp, prompting an investigation that ultimately led to Kazuzu's arrest.
Kazuzu is currently facing charges of extortion and impersonation, with the court proceedings expected to unfold further as he seeks bail.
