The Zanu-PF leadership in Mberengwa district has pledged to enhance collaboration with traditional leaders to drive socio-economic development in the area, in line with Zimbabwe's Vision 2030. This commitment was made during a weekend handover event where the ruling party delivered farming inputs and equipment to traditional leaders, reinforcing its dedication to empowering local communities and addressing the challenges posed by climate change.
Zanu-PF Central Committee member and Mberengwa Central Constituency legislator, Tinashe Shumba, highlighted the crucial role traditional leaders play in national development, especially in rural areas. Speaking at the event, Shumba emphasized that traditional leaders have always been integral to the country's development, dating back to the liberation struggle. Today, they continue to serve as key community figures, helping to shape and guide development efforts.
"The ruling party has a long history of working closely with traditional leaders. They have always been at the forefront of driving change in their communities," Shumba said. "In line with the Second Republic's philosophy of leaving no one and no place behind, traditional leaders are essential in fostering rural development and ensuring that progress reaches even the most remote areas."
The event, which saw the distribution of farming tools and resources, was part of broader efforts to support the community and enhance local agricultural practices. Traditional leaders, such as Chief Bvute and Chief Chingoma, expressed their gratitude, praising the ruling party's deliberate efforts to empower them and their communities.
Chief Bvute, in his remarks, thanked the party for its proactive approach to development, which he said has lightened the load for traditional leaders. "We are happy with how Zanu-PF has partnered with us to bring about the development of our district. This effort helps teach our children the values of hard work, and we are glad to be working alongside the ruling party to transform Mberengwa," Chief Bvute said.
Chief Chingoma also extended his heartfelt appreciation for the support and resources provided by the party. He described the distribution of farming inputs and start-up packs as a significant step towards improving the welfare of the district. "We are grateful to the party leadership for the opportunity to share our concerns and for equipping us with the necessary tools to change the future of Mberengwa. This support will go a long way in transforming our community," Chief Chingoma added.
The positive response from traditional leaders reflects a growing partnership between Zanu-PF and local communities, with a focus on sustainable development and the alleviation of poverty. The collaboration is expected to have a lasting impact on Mberengwa, improving the livelihoods of residents and contributing to Zimbabwe's broader vision of becoming an upper-middle-income economy by 2030.
