Police have intensified efforts to apprehend four men accused of brutally attacking and killing Makhosezwe Mpofu at Hozi Business Centre in Silobela, Midlands, earlier this year.

According to Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the suspects have been on the run for eight months following the fatal incident in April. The suspects are identified as Ryan Nangombe, Regis Mathema, Nqobizitha Mathema, Evidence Mpofu Pumulani (also known as Marabha), and an individual only identified as Leonard. The police have disclosed no further details about these suspects, who are believed to be evading capture.

The murder took place on April 12, when Mpofu, known as Fuzane, was drinking beer at the Hozi Business Centre. It is alleged that the suspects approached him and asked him to buy them beer, to which Fuzane refused. A disagreement ensued, but other patrons at the establishment intervened to prevent a physical confrontation at that time.

However, hours later, at around 7 p.m., the suspects allegedly returned, this time armed with sticks, machetes, knives, and an axe. Fearing for his life, Fuzane attempted to flee, but the suspects gave chase and caught up with him. They then reportedly attacked him with their weapons, inflicting severe injuries. He later succumbed to his wounds.

The attack was reported to ZRP Silobela, where authorities arrested one suspect, Ryan Nangombe, but the other members of the gang remain at large.

"The suspects are still on the run, and we are actively searching for them. We urge anyone with information about their whereabouts to come forward," Inspector Mahoko said.

Police have appealed to the public for assistance in locating the remaining suspects and bringing them to justice for the brutal killing of Makhosezwe Mpofu.
