Zanu-PF's National Secretary for Youth Affairs, Tino Machakaire, announced a major reshuffle of the Youth League National Executive to align the structure with the 2030 national agenda. However, the move has been halted by Deputy Secretary for Youth Affairs, John Paradza, citing procedural concerns and potential divisions.

The reshuffle, announced on Monday, saw new appointments to key positions, including: Phineas Makombe as Secretary for Commissariat, Tsungai Makumbe as Secretary for Finance, Phillippa Mukoko as Secretary for External Relations, Munashe Mtutsa as Secretary for Information, Valeria Makonza as Secretary for Legal Affairs and Garikai Zonde as Secretary for Science and Technology.

Machakaire described the adjustments as essential for driving the Zanu-PF Youth League's goals in line with President Emmerson Mnangagwa's Vision 2030.

"These adjustments enhance the fulfilment of the Youth League's constitutional obligations and the execution of national conference resolutions," Machakaire said in a statement.

However, Paradza countered the reshuffle, stating it violated the party's constitution and overlooked the role of provincial mandates in appointing executive members.

In a letter addressed to Machakaire, Paradza referenced Article 25, Section 339 of the Zanu-PF Party Constitution, emphasizing that such changes require consultation with provinces and adherence to procedural guidelines.

"I have received several complaints from affected members who were reshuffled without proper procedures. These Comrades were elected into their positions by their provinces, and their mandates were ratified by the National Youth League Conference in 2022. Any adjustments should be made in consultation with relevant stakeholders," Paradza stated.

Paradza has sought intervention from Zanu-PF Secretary Obert Mpofu to resolve the matter and advised affected members to remain in their positions until further notice.

The dispute highlights internal tensions within the Youth League, with concerns that the reshuffle could create divisions. Party leadership is expected to intervene to ensure unity and clarity on the way forward.
