Two people lost their lives while two others were injured in a tragic road accident involving three buses along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Highway on Sunday. The collision involved Tombs Motorways, Mbokoto, and Rimbi buses.

National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the accident in a statement, detailing how the incident unfolded. The Tombs Motorways bus had initially hit a donkey, which caused it to be parked by the roadside. Passengers were being transferred to the Mbokoto bus, which was also parked nearby.

While the transfer was taking place, a Rimbi bus rammed into the trailer of the Tombs Motorways bus, causing a subsequent collision with the Mbokoto bus. The crash resulted in two fatalities and left two others with injuries.

"The bodies of the two victims were taken to Beitbridge Hospital mortuary for post-mortem while the injured are admitted to the same hospital," said Commissioner Nyathi.

The accident has raised concerns over road safety on the busy Masvingo-Beitbridge route, with investigations underway to determine the cause of the collision. Authorities are urging motorists to remain cautious and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such tragic accidents.
