The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) has announced the release of the 2024 Ordinary Level examination results, revealing a national pass rate of 33.19%, marking a modest improvement from 29.41% in 2023.

Addressing the media, Zimsec board chairperson Professor Paul Mapfumo highlighted the increase in both candidature and pass rate. The results are accessible online from today until Tuesday via the Zimsec website, www.zimsec.co.zw.

"Heads of Examination Centres will be able to collect results for their respective schools or centres from Provincial Offices on Monday, 20 January 2025," said Prof Mapfumo.

Prof Mapfumo revealed that 291,341 candidates sat for the examinations in 2024, an increase of 21,212 from the 270,129 candidates in 2023. This represents a 7.85% rise in the number of students taking the exams.

"A total of 199,258 candidates wrote five or more subjects, with 66,130 passing five or more subjects with a grade C or better," Prof Mapfumo said. "This translates to a national pass rate of 33.19% for November 2024."

Compared to 2023, the number of candidates who passed five or more subjects increased by 11,710. This improvement reflects a 3.78% rise in the national pass rate, attributed to ongoing efforts to enhance education standards and accessibility.

Students and schools have been encouraged to access their results promptly through Zimsec's online portal or collect them from their respective centres starting next week.

The release of the results comes as Zimbabwe's education sector continues to recover from challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and works towards further improving performance metrics in subsequent years.
