A Bishop at Emmanuel Global Church, Emmanuel Muzondi (49), appeared in court on Tuesday facing allegations of defrauding a local businessman, Lovemore Pasipamire, of US$80,000 in a failed residential stand deal. Muzondi, from Old Highfield, was granted US$200 bail and is scheduled to return to court on February 24 for routine remand.

Muzondi is accused of defrauding Pasipamire, the director of Pasmic Procurements (Pvt) Ltd, in a fraudulent property transaction involving a 3,073 square-metre residential stand located in the Mandara low-density suburb.

State prosecutor Dzidzai Josiah told the court that in July 2023, Pasipamire was introduced to Muzondi through estate agents Milton Vambe and Samuel Dandira, who claimed that Muzondi was selling the residential stand. To convince Pasipamire that the deal was legitimate, Muzondi allegedly presented a fake agreement of sale and an allocation letter, which he claimed had been signed by the City of Harare's then acting housing director, Mathew Marara, on November 16, 2016.

Pasipamire expressed interest in the stand and agreed to purchase it for US$80,000. He made an initial payment of US$75,000, for which he received a receipt. However, after receiving the balance of the payment, Muzondi reportedly became evasive, prompting Pasipamire to raise concerns.

The matter was reported to the police on December 11, 2024, and investigations revealed that Muzondi had used forged documents to facilitate the transaction.
