Mnangagwa calls for unity in push towards Vision 2030

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has issued a powerful call for unity, accountability, and accelerated grassroots development, as Zimbabwe advances toward its Vision 2030 goal of becoming a prosperous upper-middle-income economy.

Speaking at a high-level meeting with Provincial Ministers and government officials at State House in Harare, the President highlighted the vital role of the Devolution and Decentralisation Policy in achieving equitable development across the nation.

"The main focus remains centred at the grassroots level. This meeting provides an opportunity to assess the progress we have made under the Devolution and Decentralisation Policy, which is a central pillar of the 2nd Republic," said President Mnangagwa.

The President acknowledged the progress made in improving the livelihoods of Zimbabweans but stressed the urgent need to accelerate efforts to meet the country's national goals. He cautioned against complacency, asserting that leaders must remain diligent and focused on the mission at hand.

"Dragging of feet and fancy seating are not acceptable dispositions under my watch. Increased momentum towards achieving our goals requires leaders who are dedicated. Decide to be counted as those carrying these traits," he said.

Unity was a recurring theme throughout the President's speech, as he reminded officials of the importance of staying grounded in their responsibilities to the people. "Let us never forget where we come from. Always have a heart for the people. The policy of Devolution and Decentralisation is a beacon for national unity and equitable development," he urged.

The President called on Provincial Ministers to align their work with the national vision and ensure their communities remain vibrant and hopeful. He emphasized the importance of advancing industrialization at the local level, encouraging leaders to champion people-driven development programs and ensure no one is left behind.

"You must fully play your part in advancing the industrialisation of our communities. Lead from the front in championing people-driven development programs, leaving no one behind," said President Mnangagwa.

A key message in the President's address was the importance of maintaining a strong work ethic and adhering to timelines in reporting. "Positive work ethics must be sustained as we march towards Vision 2030. You must submit comprehensive and timely reports, both ad hoc and routine. Non-attendance to Cabinet Committee meetings is unacceptable," he stated.

President Mnangagwa also highlighted the importance of implementing the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) with a focus on building modern, sustainable economies at the subnational level. He emphasized that Zimbabwe's vast natural resources must be protected and used responsibly by local communities, rejecting any efforts that may undermine the progress of the 2nd Republic.

"Our country is endowed with God-given natural resources. Through you, our communities must remain good custodians of these resources. Shun machinations that seek to reverse the 2nd Republic's achievements," he urged.

The President encouraged collaboration between government officials, traditional leaders, and party structures in the implementation of development programs. He reiterated the well-known Zimbabwean mantra, "Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo" (A nation is built by its own people), emphasizing the importance of collective effort in achieving the nation's development goals.

Concluding his address, President Mnangagwa stressed the importance of unity and dedication in driving Zimbabwe's development. "I urge Ministers to remain duty-bound and committed to our national interest and development aspirations. Unity of purpose and dedication in the implementation of government programs must be a key priority area. Preach unity and peace in your provinces," he said.

As Zimbabwe works toward Vision 2030, the President's message is clear: unity, accountability, and grassroots development are essential for the country's success.
