Former CAPS United midfielder Ian Bakala has been appointed as the club's new head coach, stepping in to replace long-serving gaffer and club legend Lloyd Chitembwe. The appointment marks a new chapter for the Harare giants as they seek to revive their fortunes in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

Bakala, who enjoyed a successful playing career with CAPS United and had stints abroad, returns to the club in a leadership capacity, bringing with him fresh ideas and a modern approach to the game. He will be assisted by Alexio Sigion, as the club reshapes its technical bench following a turbulent start to the season.

The decision to appoint Bakala comes after Makepekepe's unsuccessful attempt to secure the services of Ngezi Platinum Stars head coach Takesure Chiragwi, who reportedly opted to remain with the reigning league champions.

Club sources indicate that Bakala impressed during preliminary discussions with the CAPS United hierarchy, who were keen to bring in a coach familiar with the club's culture but capable of introducing tactical innovation and discipline.

Bakala's immediate task will be to steady the ship at CAPS United, who have struggled with consistency and off-field challenges in recent seasons. His knowledge of both the local game and the club's internal dynamics is seen as a major asset in the rebuild.

Fans will be eager to see whether the former midfield maestro can inspire the Green Machine back to glory, as the club seeks to return to the top echelons of Zimbabwean football.

CAPS United are expected to officially unveil Bakala and his technical team at a press conference later this week.
