2 senior security agents killed in pile-up accident

Tragedy struck last evening when two senior security service members lost their lives in a road accident involving a vehicle pile-up at the Mutimurefu Prison Bus Stop along the Masvingo-Mutare Road.
The deceased are Gift Nyama, Officer Commanding the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) in Gutu, and Masimba Blessing Mandimutsira, Principal Correctional Officer at Mutimurefu Prisons.
According to information obtained by Masvingo Mirror, Nyama was driving from Gutu following a farewell party held at 4/2 Brigade in Mpandawana on Tuesday. It is reported that Nyama's vehicle rammed into a stationary tractor that was positioned in the middle of the road without any lights or reflectors, creating a deadly hazard.
Mandimutsira and other officers responded to assist at the crash site. While attending the scene, the second vehicle involved - a Ford Ranger single cab driven by Chief Superintendent Simangaliso Dube, Officer Commanding Masvingo Central District - approached from the Mutare direction heading toward Masvingo. In an attempt to avoid the pile-up, Dube's vehicle veered off the road and tragically ran over Mandimutsira.
Nyama died instantly from a broken neck sustained in the crash, while Mandimutsira was rushed to Masvingo Provincial Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The accident site, notorious for previous fatalities, had claimed the lives of two other officers just last year, raising concerns over road safety in the area.
Attempts to reach Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa for comment were unsuccessful as he was out of the office.
A statement from Superintendent Francis Makonese, Officer-in-Charge Prisons, confirmed the accident and expressed condolences to the families and security services affected.
The incident has left the security community mourning the loss of two respected officers and has reignited calls for improved road safety measures on this dangerous stretch of road.
