Rapist dozes off at crime scene

A 22-year-old man, Thabisani Moyo, appeared before Plumtree magistrate Mark Dzira on Friday, accused of raping an 18-year-old woman and reportedly sleeping at the crime scene shortly after the assault.

According to prosecutor Selestine Madziwa, on the night of May 15, Moyo allegedly broke into the victim's home around midnight. He threatened the complainant with a knife, warning her not to make any noise.

Moyo then ordered the victim to remove her clothes and allegedly raped her once without using protection.

Shockingly, the suspect is said to have fallen asleep at the scene after the attack, giving the victim an opportunity to escape and alert her aunt.

Following a police report, Moyo was arrested and remanded in custody. He will return to court on Monday for trial continuation.
