4 dead, 40 injured in bus-tractor collision near Masvingo

Four people lost their lives and 40 others were injured on Monday following a serious road accident involving a bus and a tractor approximately 34 kilometers from Masvingo on the highway to Mbalabala, police have confirmed.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 11 AM when a Govasberg bus traveling from Gweru attempted to overtake a slow-moving tractor pulling a trailer. The bus driver reportedly encountered oncoming traffic and, in an effort to return to his lane safely, collided with the tractor.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi provided details of the tragedy: "Four people were killed," he said, confirming the fatalities.

Photos from the accident scene reveal the tractor overturned with its wheels facing upwards, while the bus veered off the road and came to a stop between trees.

Survivors at the scene alleged that the bus driver was speeding at the time of the crash, a factor that may have contributed to the severity of the accident.

Emergency services attended promptly to assist the injured, who were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
