A group of five armed robbers launched a daring raid on Imperial Refrigeration Company in Southerton, Harare, making off with more than US$13,000 and R2,000 in cash.
The robbers, armed with knives, gained access to the premises by jumping over a precast wall. Once inside, they overpowered two security guards. One guard was manhandled and had his hands tied with shoelaces, while another was threatened with a knife before being restrained in the same manner.
The assailants then escorted the guards to the administration offices, where they forced their way into the safe using iron bars, a bolt cutter, and a grinder. After breaking the locks, they stole the cash before fleeing the scene.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the incident.
"Police are investigating a robbery case at a Refrigeration Company in Southerton involving more than US$13,000," Insp. Chakanza said.
Authorities are following up leads as investigations continue into the audacious heist. No arrests have been reported yet.
