Popular comedian and musician Freddie Manjalima, widely known by his stage name Kapfupi, has finally taken delivery of his new Toyota Aqua, a gift from controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo, after a dramatic delay stemming from an earlier failed handover attempt.
The car, reportedly worth US$9,000, had initially been withheld after Kapfupi arrived visibly intoxicated at the agreed collection point. Chivayo, known for his high-profile philanthropic gestures - often involving cars and cash donations to local celebrities - had reportedly cancelled the handover following the incident.
According to screenshots shared on social media, a conversation between Kapfupi and one Madzibaba Chipanga, who was tasked with delivering the car, revealed that the vehicle has been handed over after it was withdrawn when Kapfupi showed up drunk, frustrating the businessman's gesture.
Kapfupi had earlier made a heartfelt public appeal to Chivayo for assistance, explaining that the car previously gifted to him had been written off in an accident last year. Moved by the request, Chivayo once again pledged his support.
Following the delay, Chivayo has now made good on his promise, officially handing over the replacement vehicle to the veteran entertainer. In addition to the Toyota Aqua, Chivayo also committed US$3,000 towards Kapfupi's car insurance to safeguard the new vehicle.
The development marks another chapter in the ongoing and often unpredictable saga of Chivayo's gift-giving efforts, which have earned him both praise and criticism for their flamboyant nature and the scrutiny that often follows.
Kapfupi, whose comedic legacy and musical career have spanned decades, expressed gratitude for the renewed support and pledged to put the vehicle to good use.
