A dark shadow has fallen over Musvuti Village under Chief Marambo in Midlands Province following the tragic death of a two-year-old boy whose body was discovered dumped in a nearby gully. The boy's father remains missing, sparking a manhunt by police.
Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, Midlands Police spokesperson, confirmed that the incident occurred on the night of June 17, 2025. The deceased child, Tanatswa Marinda, had reportedly been unwell prior to the tragedy.
According to Inspector Mahoko, Tatenda Marinda, the 25-year-old father, took the child out of their bedroom during the night. "Tatenda's wife, who had already retired to bed, assumed he had taken the boy out to comfort him," Mahoko said.
However, what initially appeared to be a caring gesture quickly turned into a nightmare. The following morning, Tatenda's wife awoke to find both her husband and son missing. Family members and villagers launched a desperate search, culminating in the grim discovery of Tanatswa's lifeless body in a gully near their homestead.
Tatenda Marinda remains unaccounted for and is now the prime suspect in the suspected murder of his son.
Police have since opened an urgent investigation and appealed to the public for any information that could assist in locating Tatenda. "The child was found dead under suspicious circumstances, and we are appealing to the public for any information that may lead to the whereabouts of the father, who is currently on the run," Inspector Mahoko said.
The community remains in shock as authorities continue their search amid calls for justice for the young boy.
