Zimbabwe Human Rights director Okay Machisa, accused of tampering with the voters' roll, was yesterday granted US$500 bail.
Machisa, who is being charged with forgery and conspiracy to commit fraud, also faces an alternative charge of publishing or communicating false statements prejudicial to the State.

Justice Felistus Chatukuta ordered Machisa to surrender title deeds to a relative's Belvedere house as surety.

The court ordered Machisa to stay at his Mt Pleasant house until finalisation of the case.

He was also barred from interfering with State witnesses and police investigations.

Law officer Mr Innocent Chingarande from the Attorney General's Office appeared for the State while Ms Beatrice Mtetwa of Mtetwa and Nyambirai acted for Machisa.

The State accused Machisa of attempting to cause mayhem in the country that could result in the United Nations (UN) calling for a resolution for a no-fly zone over Zimbabwe. Machisa is being charged together with Farai Bhani, Tatenda Chinaka, Dorcas Shereni and Leo Chamahwinya.
