Police in Zimbabwe have arrested a 52-year-old woman from Shurugwi in connection with the suspected ritual killing of her four-year-old granddaughter. Veronica Mudzipuri, an artisanal miner, was detained on August 26 following allegations that she poisoned her granddaughter, Tawanayasha Kadhene, by mixing a maize pesticide pill into a maheu drink.
According to National Police Spokesman Commissioner Paul Nyathi, Mudzipuri is further accused of cutting flesh from the child’s cheek, combining it with herbs provided by a traditional healer, and allegedly cooking and consuming the mixture as part of the ritual.
Authorities confirmed that investigations into the matter are ongoing, with police working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the gruesome incident.
