Pastor remanded for sodomising church member

Pastor Severino Mbwende of New Creation Life Church in Zvishavane has been remanded in custody on charges of sodomizing an 18-year-old church member.
Mbwende appeared before Kwekwe Magistrate Mildred Matuvi, facing allegations of aggravated indecent assault.
According to court documents, the incident occurred on August 11, 2025, when the pastor visited the complainant's family in Redcliff. The complainant reportedly woke up to find Mbwende caressing him. When the victim protested, the pastor allegedly stated that the complainant was "too handsome" and that his lack of facial hair made him feel as though he were in bed with a woman.
The court papers allege that Mbwende forced himself on the complainant, removing the victim's shorts and threatening to shoot him if he screamed or disclosed the assault. The pastor then allegedly compelled the victim to lie on his stomach and assaulted him three times. Following the third assault, the complainant was reportedly coerced into performing a sexual act on Mbwende.
Mbwende left the home at 6:30 AM while the complainant's family was still asleep. The victim later confided in his aunt, leading to the pastor's arrest.
The case has been adjourned to September 4, 2025, for trial.
