A Bulawayo resident, Mzingaye Ncube, was arrested at the Bulawayo Provincial Registrar General's Office after raising concerns about the facility's dire sanitation conditions. According to Ncube, only one working toilet—a female cubicle—was available and being shared by both men and women.
"The malfunction of the male restroom forced hundreds of people, including those applying for national IDs, to queue for a single toilet," Ncube said.
Ncube reportedly began taking photos to document the situation, which led to his arrest around 2 PM. He was initially detained at the registrar's office before being transferred to Bulawayo Central Police Station. Ncube was charged with Disorderly Conduct and fined US$20.
Speaking after paying the fine, Ncube, who lives in Lobengula West, emphasised that his intention was not to cause trouble but to raise awareness about a critical public health issue.
