A concession miner, Andrew Chabooka, 45, has been sentenced to five years in prison after causing the death of his colleague, Trust Simawu, 37, at the Tamuka AL mine in Concession.

Bindura magistrate Elisha Singano handed down the sentence for culpable homicide, conditionally suspending two years.

According to prosecutor Edward Katsvairo, the incident occurred on April 19 when Chabooka allegedly switched on a round mill, fatally crushing Simawu. Following the tragic accident, Chabooka was arrested and subsequently tried in court.

The case highlights ongoing safety concerns in mining operations, underscoring the importance of strict adherence to workplace protocols to prevent such fatal incidents.
