A 40-year-old Kwekwe man has been convicted of bestiality after he was caught sexually abusing a she goat at a homestead in Redcliff.

The offender, Stephen Musongwe, was sentenced to six months in prison by the Kwekwe Magistrates Court this week. However, three months were conditionally suspended, while the remaining three months were converted to 105 hours of community service.

According to court proceedings, the incident occurred on August 14, 2025, around 9am at a homestead in Semchengwe Village, Redcliff. Musongwe, who had previously worked as a labourer for the goat's owner, went to the goat pen where he pinned the animal down and committed the act.

He was caught in the act by the owner, who immediately raised alarm. Musongwe fled the scene but was positively identified, leading to his arrest shortly afterward.

Following the conviction, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) expressed concern over what it described as an increasing number of bestiality cases across the country.

"Cases of bestiality have been on the increase lately, and it is the duty of the law to protect our animals from individuals with weird sexual desires," the NPAZ said in a statement.
