Baby dies after slipping from mother's back as parents fight

In a heartbreaking incident that has stunned the Mberengwa community, a four-month-old baby died after falling from her mother's back during a violent altercation between her parents.
Midlands Provincial Police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the tragedy, which occurred on October 23 around 7 p.m. at Domboshava Village in Mberengwa.
"Police in Mberengwa confirm a case of murder where a four-month-old baby died after she fell from her mother's back during a fight between the parents," said Insp Mahoko.
The deceased infant was identified as Mitchelle Zhou.
According to police, Mitchelle's parents, Mthandazo Zhou (23) and Tawananyasha Zhou, both of Domboshava, allegedly got into a heated argument that escalated into a physical fight.
"The mother was carrying Mitchelle on her back. During the scuffle, it is said the baby slipped from the mother's back, fell to the ground, and died instantly," Insp Mahoko said.
Police were alerted to the incident and attended the scene. Both parents were subsequently arrested and are assisting with investigations.
"At the time of arrest, they were processing a secret burial of the body at Khumalo Village under Chief Negove, Gomonhenga area, in Mberengwa," added Insp Mahoko.
He urged members of the public to seek peaceful ways to resolve domestic disputes and avoid violence that can lead to unnecessary loss of life.
