ZANU-PF Bulawayo Provincial Youth Chairperson Freedom Murechu has been confirmed as the party's candidate for the Nkulumane Constituency by-election set for 20 December, following a proclamation by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The by-election comes after the tragic death of Nkulumane legislator Desire Moyo in a road accident on October 10 this year.

Confirming the development, Zanu-PF Bulawayo Provincial Secretary for Information, Archie Chiponda, said Murechu was selected uncontested after the province's call for expressions of interest.

"Freedom Murechu will be the Zanu-PF candidate for the Nkulumane Constituency by-election set for 20 December. He emerged uncontested. After a call for expression of interest from Zanu-PF Bulawayo Province, his was the only submission," said Chiponda.

According to the presidential proclamation issued last Thursday, the Nomination Court will convene on November 20 at Magistrates' Court Number 5, Tredgold Building in Bulawayo, to receive candidate nominations.

Murechu, who has been serving as the party's shadow MP for the constituency, is now poised to officially contest the seat on behalf of the ruling party.

The Nkulumane by-election is expected to be one of several key contests closing the political calendar for 2025, as parties gear up for the next general election cycle.
