The Government has announced plans to establish a Vocational Training Centre (VTC) in every district, a move aimed at promoting grassroots skills development, particularly in hard-to-reach communities. Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training Minister Tino Machakaire made the announcement during a graduation ceremony at Mashayamombe VTC in Mhondoro-Mubaira, where 304 youths from eight training centres in Mashonaland West Province received national trade certificates.

Minister Machakaire said the initiative aligns with the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) and is designed to make vocational training more accessible to all youths. He urged young people to use the skills acquired through training to improve their livelihoods and contribute positively to their communities, while also cautioning them against drug and substance abuse.

The graduates expressed determination to put their skills into practice. Memory Mandaba, the top auto-electric engineering graduate from Kadoma VTC, encouraged young women to pursue technical fields and shared her ambition to open a workshop to inspire others. Tawedzera Shoko, the best student in building studies, plans to start a business using a starter pack received at the graduation ceremony, while Opportunity Chigodora, who excelled in hospitality and tourism, expressed gratitude for the Government's efforts in creating employment opportunities through vocational training.

Senator Chief Ngezi highlighted the social benefits of VTCs, noting that empowering youths with practical skills helps address issues such as drug abuse and violence, enabling young people to earn an honest living.

The Government has further announced plans to open new VTCs in Sanyati, Siakobvu, and Mhangura, signaling a commitment to expanding vocational training opportunities across Mashonaland West Province.
