A 43-year-old woman, Annamarie Louise Bertram, appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo on Thursday, facing charges of unlawful possession of ammunition.
Bertram was arrested on November 29, 2025, after security personnel at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport detected metallic objects in her luggage while she was preparing to board a flight to Cape Town, South Africa.
According to the State, security officer Simbarashe Chitabura conducted a physical search after the scanner flagged the bag. The search reportedly uncovered three live rounds and five bullet heads concealed inside a small Smarties sweet tube.
The seized ammunition has been submitted for forensic examination. Prosecutors indicated that the results could establish a connection to serious offences allegedly committed by Bertram, raising concerns that she might abscond and evade trial.
Bertram was granted US$100 bail and ordered to continue residing at her registered address, with instructions not to interfere with State witnesses.
The case is ongoing, and further court proceedings will depend on the outcome of the forensic examination.
