Police launch manhunt after Chitungwiza murder

HARARE - Police in Harare have launched a manhunt following the death of a man in Unit L, Chitungwiza, amid growing concerns over rising violent crime across the country.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the case via their X account, stating that the victim, Phanuel Mbengo (52), was discovered lying unconscious with a deep head wound on 1 December at Unit L Shopping Centre.
"The ZRP is investigating a murder case involving Phanuel Mbengo (52), who was found lying unconscious with a deep cut on the head on December 1 at Unit L Shopping Centre, Chitungwiza," police said.
Mbengo was rushed to Chitungwiza Central Hospital, where he later died while receiving treatment. Police have appealed to the public for information, urging anyone with knowledge of the incident to report to the nearest station.
The case comes amid a proliferation of murder incidents in various parts of Zimbabwe, sparking fears that citizens may be resorting to vigilante justice or that violent crime is on the rise.
