Navaya scoops soccer star of the year and golden boot award

TelOne striker Washington Navaya enjoyed a remarkable night of triumph after scooping both the 2025 Soccer Star of the Year award and the Golden Boot, cementing his place as one of the standout performers of the current Premier Soccer League season.
The prolific forward, aged 27, netted 17 goals during the campaign to finish as the league's top scorer, edging past top contenders Kevin Moyo of Scotland FC and Simba Bhora's Emmanuel Ziocha, who claimed first and second runner-up spots respectively. His consistent form in front of goal made him the obvious favourite for the Golden Boot, but few expected him to walk away with the league's most prestigious individual honour as well.
Navaya's achievement comes in a season that saw him revive his career after joining TelOne from Highlanders at the start of the year. Speaking after receiving the awards, an emotional Navaya admitted that the moment had taken him by surprise.
"To be honest, I am surprised," he said. "I didn't know that this was my night. I want to thank God for this. Also, I want to thank my teammates for all the work they put in; they also contributed to this."
His crowning places him in the TelOne history books as the first player from the club to win the Soccer Star of the Year award. The honour also breaks a longstanding dominance by players from championship-winning teams, marking the first time since 2019 that the recipient did not come from the title holders.
