Missing boys found dead in dam

Two young boys who went missing at Bhinyela Dam in Sibantubanye Village, Filabusi, have been found dead after a police Sub Aqua Unit retrieved their bodies on Tuesday afternoon.

The children, aged five and three, disappeared on December 8, 2025 while their mother, 27-year-old Sheron Masuku, was washing clothes at the dam. After realising they were no longer playing nearby, she searched for them and later found only their shoes placed on a rock close to the water - sparking fears that they may have slipped and drowned.

Matabeleland South Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Chiratidzo Dube confirmed the recovery of the bodies and said investigations were underway.

"The Sub Aqua team retrieved two bodies yesterday in the afternoon," Dube said. "We are encouraging parents to monitor children and ensure they do not play around water bodies, especially during the rainy season. We also urge communities to avoid crossing flooded rivers."

Police say more information will be released once inquiries are complete.
