Mayor Coltart meets NoViolet Bulawayo, celebrates literary excellence

BULAWAYO - His Worship Senator David Coltart, the Mayor of Bulawayo, has met with celebrated Zimbabwean author NoViolet Bulawayo following her recent recognition as Africa's best short story writer.

NoViolet was honoured with a special award marking 25 years of the Caine Prize for African Writing, having previously won the prestigious prize in 2011 for her story "Hitting Budapest."

Mayor Coltart commended NoViolet for putting Bulawayo on the global literary map and described her as an inspiration to aspiring writers across the city.

The meeting highlighted the intersection of civic pride and artistic achievement, with the Mayor acknowledging the role of literature in shaping cultural identity and international recognition.

NoViolet's latest work, "Glory," continues to receive acclaim, and her success has reignited interest in Zimbabwean storytelling and the power of fiction to reflect national realities.
