Newly promoted Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Hardrock are making bold moves in the transfer market as they prepare for their inaugural top-flight season.
The Kwekwe-based outfit has been busy strengthening their squad, adding experienced players to complement their promotion-winning team. Defender Boyd Mutukure was among the first signings, alongside goalkeeper Tonderai Mateyaunga and Xolani Ndlovu from Chicken Inn.
Midfield reinforcements include Junior Makunike, who joined from former champions Simba Bhora, while former Dynamos midfielder Donald Mudadi is also reportedly on his way from Simba Bhora.
On New Year's Day, Hardrock confirmed the signing of industrious MWOS midfielder Nigel Matinha. MWOS issued a statement thanking Matinha for his service and wishing him success in the next chapter of his career.
Sources indicate that Hardrock are not finished in the market, with TelOne duo striker Tawanda Macheke and defender Admire Dzumbunu reportedly high on their wishlist. Macheke, in particular, is seen as a marquee target after scoring eight goals and providing 10 assists in TelOne's record-breaking PSL season.
"Hardrock have been persistent in their pursuit of the two TelOne players. They are open to a loan deal if a permanent transfer cannot be secured, but TelOne are reluctant to sell, especially with Washington Navaya's contract expiring at the end of the year," a source said on condition of anonymity.
The club recently appointed Zambian tactician Kelvin Kaindu as head coach, signalling their intent to make an impact in the PSL. So far, Hardrock have retained key members of their promotion-winning squad, including Lenox Mucheto, Alpha Dube, and captain Munyaradzi Diro Nyenye.
As the season approaches, Hardrock's aggressive recruitment strategy suggests they are determined not just to survive but to compete strongly in Zimbabwe's top football division.
