At least four people lost their lives and 12 others were injured when a commuter omnibus overturned along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls highway on Saturday.

The accident occurred after the driver of the Nissan Caravan kombi, carrying 16 passengers, reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and overturn.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident. "The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on January 3, 2026, at the 312 kilometre peg along Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road. Four people were killed while 12 others were injured when a Nissan Caravan kombi with 16 passengers on board veered off the road before overturning and landing on its roof," Nyathi said.

The bodies of the deceased were transported to Hwange Colliery Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations, while the injured were admitted to the same hospital for treatment.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash as road safety concerns remain high along the busy highway connecting Bulawayo and Victoria Falls.
