Four people, including the drivers of two haulage trucks, narrowly escaped death on Monday afternoon following a head-on collision at the 126km peg along the Harare–Bulawayo Road.

Initial reports circulating on social media, particularly on TikTok, had claimed that the accident was fatal. However, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have since dismissed those reports.

Confirming the incident, Mashonaland West acting ZRP spokesperson Assistant Inspector Belinda Nyazire said all the occupants involved sustained injuries, but no fatalities were recorded.

"The first party, Last Maponga, was driving a white DAF truck owned by Prailink Investments towards Harare and was alone in the vehicle," said Ass Insp Nyazire.

"The second party, Tawanda Samu, was driving a green DAF truck from Kadoma towards Chegutu, carrying three passengers."

She said that as Maponga approached the 126km peg, his truck encroached into the oncoming lane, resulting in a head-on collision.

"The impact caused serious injuries to the second party and his passengers," she said.

Ass Insp Nyazire urged drivers, particularly those in the transport industry, to exercise extreme caution on the roads to safeguard lives and property, and warned against relying on unverified social media reports for accurate information.
