A car import agent has appeared in court facing fraud charges after allegedly duping a Harare man of US$9 182 by falsely claiming he could import two vehicles from Japan.
Kundayi Abraham (31) appeared before Harare magistrate Tapiwa Kuhudzai, where he was charged with fraud. The matter was remanded to February 2.
The complainant is Genius Tinotenda Mukosera.
According to the State, represented by Lawrence Gangarahwe, the incident occurred sometime in July 2025, when Mukosera engaged Abraham to import a Toyota Aqua and a Mercedes-Benz from Japan. Abraham allegedly charged a total of US$9 182 to import and deliver the vehicles.
The court heard that Mukosera paid the full amount in instalments and was assured that the vehicles would be delivered within two months.
However, after the agreed period elapsed, Mukosera reportedly followed up on the delivery, only for Abraham to begin making excuses while buying time. Prosecutors said Abraham later became evasive, prompting Mukosera to report the matter to the police.
The State alleges that as a result of Abraham's misrepresentation, Mukosera suffered a financial prejudice of US$9 182, with nothing recovered to date.
The case continues on February 2.
