Man threatens to mother over witchcraft claims

A 39-year-old man from Figtree appeared before the Plumtree Magistrates Court yesterday facing a charge of abuse after allegedly threatening to kill his 79-year-old mother over witchcraft allegations.
Sizimisele Nyathi was arraigned before magistrate Joshua Nembaware and was remanded out of custody. He is expected to return to court next week.
Prosecutor Sheila Nyathi told the court that the complainant, Esiline Mlilo, is Nyathi's mother and that the two reside together.
The court heard that on January 10 at around 10pm, Nyathi allegedly returned home intoxicated and began shouting obscenities at his mother, accusing her of bewitching him. During the altercation, he reportedly threatened to kill her.
The incident was reported to the police, leading to Nyathi's arrest.
