Dynamos captain Emmanuel Jalai is on the verge of joining South African topflight side Durban City as negotiations between the two parties reach an advanced stage.
The 27-year-old right-back is currently in South Africa, where he is expected to put pen to paper with the Betway Premiership outfit if talks conclude successfully. Jalai is a free agent after his contract with Dynamos expired in December last year, giving him the flexibility to negotiate with interested clubs.
Despite his free-agent status, Dynamos have not completely closed the door on retaining their captain. Sources indicate that discussions over a possible contract renewal are ongoing, with a return to the Harare-based giants remaining an option should a foreign move fail to materialise.
Jalai has attracted significant interest both locally and abroad following an impressive 2025 season. Locally, Scottland FC and Hardrock FC were keen to secure his services, but his camp reportedly turned down those approaches as he prioritised an overseas move.
The dependable defender was one of the standout performers in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League last season and earned recognition as one of the 11 finalists for the Soccer Star of the Year award. His consistent displays also saw him clinch the PSL Fan Choice Award.
Jalai played a pivotal role in Dynamos' dramatic escape from relegation on the final day of the season and captained the side to their third consecutive Chibuku Super Cup title, further cementing his importance to the club.
Durban City's interest is understood to have intensified after the club's technical team closely followed Jalai's performances for the Zimbabwe national team, the Warriors, at the Africa Cup of Nations. He was among the few locally based players in the squad and impressed with his discipline and work rate on the continental stage.
Should the move be finalised, Jalai would become the latest Zimbabwean player to secure a place in South Africa's top league, marking a significant step forward in his career.
