Highlanders FC have reportedly appointed former Warriors captain and ex-Manchester City striker Benjani Mwaruwari as head coach, with indications that the Bulawayo giants are set to pay off South African tactician Thabo Senong.

According to sources close to the developments, the decision was finalised in Harare on Tuesday following a meeting between Highlanders chairman Kenneth Mhlophe, his deputy Fiso Siziba and the club's benefactor, businessman Wicknell Chivayo.

"Benjie is the new Highlanders dressing room sheriff. He has signed the contract and, from the looks of it, the club may pay off Senong," said one source. "Chivayo made it clear that Bosso may go ahead with the Senong deal, but he won't release a single dime."

Another source revealed that while Chivayo would not finance the termination of Senong's contract, he pledged to support the club in other key areas ahead of the new season.

"Chivayo also promised to release funds for a pre-season training camp and an undisclosed amount to help the club sign quality players so that they can compete for honours," said the source.

If confirmed, Benjani's appointment would mark a significant moment for Highlanders, bringing in one of Zimbabwe's most decorated former players to lead the team as the club looks to rebuild and challenge for silverware. The club has not yet issued an official statement regarding the reported changes.
